For the Do It Yourselfer
For some reason Kit Car manufacturers are notorious for being “Fly by Night” A few have good reputations while many others do not.
Here at Chattanooga Rod Design we place a very high value on our reputation. We are in this business for the long haul and are presently working, designing other Body Packages for different Platforms that are guaranteed to knock your socks off.
Our instruction manual is thorough. Yet we will gladly, NOT begrudgingly help you with tech service.
Although Classic 1 is not a kit car, it will undoubtedly be called that do to the DIY potential.
Putting it in that category would be an Automotive Injustice. . In reality it is a Conversion Car.
When built properly Classic 1 looks and drives like a Detroit Factory built car. NO BS.
Kit car lovers are going to hate this but they are not even in the same league. Classic 1 is a very practical car that can be driven in plush comfort for 250,000 miles or more.
Our Philosophy is, “ there is no need to reinvent the wheel” A Late Model Corvette is almost impossible to improve on. They are already near the pinnacle of performance, reliability, safety and comfort. They even get great fuel mileage!
Our process BEGINS with a perfectly good Corvette ( and we retain 75% of it ) we just exchange the late model look for our rendition of an older design. A design people have been loving for over 40 years.
Should you choose to build a car we want you to begin with the correct mind set or state of mind. We want happy customers cruising in Show Quality cars having the time of their life.
At this moment I want to make clear that Classic 1 is a difficult build. Probably better left to a professional paint and body man. Granted we have seen some phenomenal home garage guys that are more than capable and have skills second to none.
Classic 1 is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful cars ever designed.
Whether you agree with that statement or not, EVERYONE should agree that it deserves to be finished to a high level of finish quality.
Compared to a kit car the process requires more Body man skills yet much much less grease monkey work. Less parts procurement and assembly. No scrounging for parts. No engine to build or transmission work or fuel Injection tuning, No fighting interior noise and engine heat, brake lines to run, wiring to install, gauges, carpet, wipers, Air Conditioning to route plumb and install. And at least a few thousand other details involved with a ground up Kit Car. You are also spared the mountains of paper work , time and trips to the DMV necessary to license a kit car. Simply purchase your donor Vette, title and insure it as you would any conventional car. You will not be changing anything that effects that. There are no laws against customizing your car. Ground effects, Fender flares, hood scoops, spoilers, visors, etc are all 100 % legal. A Classic 1 Conversion would be considered a customization. The inner structure remains intact. All safety equipment, seat belts, airbags, emissions equipment remain intact.
How long does it take? We build a car, “one man and occasionally an extra set of helping hands for lifting” in 10 weeks.
